Position Description

Primary purpose of this position is to manage daily activities related to corrosion control for the Kinder Morgan Terminal’s Mid-West Region, involving (but not limited to) all facets of cathodic protection; including program development, implementation, data acquisition, interpretation, and associated corrective actions. Responsibilities may also include oversight of other KMLT region facilities corrosion programs on an as needed basis. This position will be located in either Chicago area, IL or Indianapolis, IN.


Essential functions are to include assisting with and hiring contractors assessing pipe-to-soil surveys, inspecting, repairing and replacing rectifier units and ground beds, test lead installation and repair, testing shorted insulators, shorted casing repairs, CIS remedial work, installation and removal of coupons, monitoring regulatory compliance, and other duties as required. This position will be responsible for recognition and reporting of abnormal and safety related operating conditions, accident and near miss reporting, performing emergency response procedures, performing regulatory compliance procedures, and performing repair procedures.  Position will be required to maintain corrosion control records and speak to regulatory agencies about Kinder Morgan corrosion control practices and corrective actions for any deficiencies found.

Position Requirements

Education:
• High school Diploma or equivalent.
• Nace/AMMP Cathodic Protection Level I is required within one year of hiring.



Competencies, skills, and abilities:
• Ability to effectively and efficiently perform job description requirements, including those identified above.
• Experience in managing and/or implementing corrosion control programs in the gas or liquids pipeline industry including but not limited to cathodic protection and internal corrosion.
• Knowledge of various types of below grade and atmospheric coatings.
• Working knowledge of applicable regulations (such as 49 CFR Part 195) and applicable industry organization standards and recommended practices (such as NACE, SSPC, ASME, etc.).
• Must be capable of developing and revising practical and effective company procedures, standards, processes and best practices.
• Must be accountable and manage activities to keep required work schedules, focus attention to details, and follow policies and procedures.
• Must have strong analytical skills and logical thought processes.
• Must be self-motivated and goal oriented.
• Must have exceptional verbal and writing communication skills.
• Must speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
• Must have exceptional interpersonal skills and be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment, consistently maintaining a professional and respectful demeanor / attitude with co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
• Must have intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
• Must have ability and willingness to effectively organize and prioritize daily work.
• Must have ability and willingness to work with a team, take directions from supervisor(s), with a high degree of attention to details, follow work rules and adhere to established work schedules.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.



Physical demands/working conditions:

• Overnight(s) travel can/may be required for support anywhere in Terminals business unit.

• Physical ability to lift as much as 40lbs, bend/stoop, kneel and climb stairs/ladders.

• Ability to use hand tools and equipment, repetitive hand use such as simple grasp and twisting motion.

• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.

• Be available for and provide Emergency Response after regular business hours which may require carrying a communication device.

Compensation:
$90,300 - $126,400
Job level and pay commensurate with experience and skill set.
