Job Summary : InterAgency is seeking a full-time Controller to lead and strengthen the company’s accounting operations, compliance functions, and financial systems. This role is a key leadership position responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, audit readiness, government contract compliance, and ongoing staff development. The Controller will supervise junior accounting personnel and collaborate with executive leadership to support growth, fiscal transparency, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities :
Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
Oversee and ensure the timely generation and accuracy of financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
Prepare for and manage FAR-compliant overhead rate audits; maintain indirect cost allocations
Develop and enforce accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP, FAR, and other applicable standards
Oversee all outgoing billing to clients (public and private) and ensure on-time, accurate invoicing in accordance with contract terms
Manage Accounts Receivable (A/R) tracking and collection efforts; lead client communication on past due accounts
Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff in AP/AR, reconciliations, time tracking, and expense categorization
Partner with payroll processors and HR to ensure timely and accurate payroll across multistate jurisdictions
Maintain and improve internal financial dashboards and KPI tracking tools to support executive decision-making
Assist with audit preparations and support outside CPA firms, financial institutions, and legal advisors as needed
Coordinate with Executive Leadership on annual budgeting, forecasting, and project cost tracking
Support planning for new business entities, partner buyouts, equity distribution, and financial strategy initiatives
Minimum Qualifications :
~ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
~6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a Controller or senior supervisory role
~ Expert proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel
~ Demonstrated experience with FAR-compliant audits, indirect cost rate management, and government billing
Preferred Qualifications:
CPA or CMA certification (or in-progress)
Familiarity with government contract billing models (T&M, CPFF, fixed price)
Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (Deltek, Oracle)
Experience managing multistate payroll and benefits compliance (DC/MD/VA)
Background in project-based accounting environments with mixed contract portfolios (public and private sector).
Employment Conditions:
Location: North Bethesda, MD (Hybrid)
Type: Full-time, exempt employment
First 60 days: 5 days/week in-office
Post-training: 3 days in-office, 2 days remote, subject to team needs
Hours: Regular business hours, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm EST
Background Check: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, including employment history, education, criminal record, and credit history as applicable.
Compensation:
~ Salary Range: $110,000 – $130,000, commensurate with experience
