Physical Education and Health Teacher Description

Empowerment Academy Charter School is hiring Physical Education and Health Teachers for our Middle School and High School.

Base Salary: $67,000-$87,000

TEACHER SUPPORTS

Teachers at Empowerment Academy are part of a school-wide team. They receive career-long coaching and professional development support from school leaders; work with their peers in professional learning communities (PLCs) to plan lessons and solve problems; and partner with an array of specialists to meet scholars’ diverse needs.

Examples of such teacher supports include:

  • Abundant planning periods during the school day;
  • A research-based curriculum and supporting curricular materials; 
  • High-quality formative assessments, aligned with the curriculum, that help identify when students have not achieved mastery of a skill, concept, or knowledge item; and
  • Full-time reading and math specialists who tutor students struggling to master an essential skill, and counselors and social workers who help students struggling with non-academic problems.

Upper Elementary/ Middle School Athletic Director Position Description

We are also hiring an Athletic Director for the Upper Elementary/Middle School Campus only, who will have a dual teaching and administrative role, overseeing the Athletic’s Program at the Middle School. This role will incorporate the following responsibilities, including but not limited to;

  • Developing a comprehensive athletic program budget for the UES/MS campus;
  • Coordinating and encouraging UES/MS scholar participation in UES/MS sports;
  • Coordinating requisitions of interscholastic sports equipment and uniform for teams;
  • Select, oversee, and evaluate UES/MS team coaches;
  • Coaching at least one sport for a season during the 2025-2026 School Year;
  • Collaborating with members of the UES/MS leadership team (i.e. the Principal, Academic Deans and Deans of Students) to determine and address student eligibility requirements;
  • Ensure you are up-to-date on trainings required of all Coaches and Athletic Directors, and show evidence to the Director of Education that your coaches, trainers and/or other staff have taken needed trainings. For example:
  • Know the requirements related to the Interscholastic Athletic Head Injury Safety Training Program (School physicians, any person who coaches a public school district or nonpublic school interscholastic sport or cheerleading program, and an athletic trainer involved in a public or nonpublic school interscholastic sports program or cheerleading program are required to complete training in head injury prevention and management.) 
  • Be up-to-date with training and certification in using an AEP and CPR;
  • Ensure that a designated staff member trained in CPR/AED is present for athletic events and team practices.

Compensation: The Athletic Director at the Upper Elementary/Middle School will have a contract for being a PE/Health Teacher based on the description above, and will also receive a $5,000 Stipend for the AD Role over the year as well as a $2,500 stipend for summer work to prepare for the year. 

Requirements

  • Candidates MUST either hold a New Jersey Department of Education CE, CEAS, Limited CE or Standard Certificate in Physical Education.
  • For the AD Position, a minimum of THREE years teaching and/or leading experience in a similar school setting;
